Friday 17 September 2011: Dragon Boat race along the Thames, in aid of the PCMT
Hi everyone hope you are all well and have enjoyed the summer!
To support and raise money for the PCMT, on Saturday 17th September I am taking part in the Great River Race: a 21 mile marathon from Millwall Docks to Ham House, Richmond, along the River Thames through the centre of London.
About 18 months ago I started dragon boating with the Henley Dragons (www.henleydragons.com) to get a bit of exercise. Now I've taken the crazy leap of participating in the Great River Race! Normal dragon boat races are run over 500 metres, so this hopefully puts the 21 miles into perspective: it will hurt a lot, so please be generous with your sponsorship! Some cheers from the bridges would be well appreciated!
Last year 300 boats carrying 2400 competitors participated so it should be quite a spectacle. If you want to come along to lend your support then follow the link below for the schedule of race timings.
What boat am I doing this in? It's in the photo above, in the foreground. It is likely to be only one of an handful of dragon boats.
To support the PCMT and inspire me to keep going, please visit the donation page, where you can download Give as you earn or Gift Aid forms. The bank details are: HSBC, PCMT Fund Raising Account, Sort Code: 40-27-07, A/C No: 51540874. You can claim back tax on their tax forms, but Gift Aid gives tax directly to the charity.
I'll hopefully hear you on a bridge on the day or see you at the PCMT golf day in 2012 (but don't expect a good round from me as my arms will still probably be hurting!)
